Magikarp, known as the Pokémon franchise's least impressive Pocket Monster, has had a few chances to shine lately. A Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon player beat the game with a single Magikarp in November. The alternate-world carp also inspired its own official theme song last July.

Pokémon fans who love or loathe the monster can now chow down on a sweet version of Magikarp. The Yokohama Kurikoan taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) shop's Yokohama Nishiguchi, Minato Mirai, Akihabara, and Kichijōji locations are offering Magikarp taiyaki filled with "fluffy custard." The sweets debuted on Saturday and cost 191 yen (about US$2).

Magikarp taiyaki filled with anko (sweet red bean paste) already debuted at the shops on December 23. Both versions of the Pokémon-themed taiyaki come in bags with the lyrics to the helpless fish's official "I Love Koiking" song on the back.
Hatsune Mike and her fellow Vocaloid friends became "chara-yaki" castella cakes in 2014. Booths at festivals in Japan often sell mini castella cakes shaped like Pikachu, Doraemon, and other characters.
