Final Fantasy XIV-related 'The Father of Light' Story Gets Live-Action TV Miniseries

Square Enix announced during a "34th Producer Letter" livestream on December 24 that the Final Fantasy XIV-related story Hikari no Otōsan (The Father of Light) is getting a live-action television miniseries. Although the series isn't directly adapting a Final Fantasy game, Square Enix is touting the series as the "first live-action work of Final Fantasy," and the show's full title is Final Fantasy XIV: Hikari no Otōsan.

Square Enix announced on Friday that Yūdai Chiba (live-action ReLIFE's Ryo Yoake, live-action Ao Haru Ride's Toma Kikuchi) is starring in the series, and Ren Ōsugi (Shin Godzilla's Prime Minister) is playing the father. The series will premiere on April 16 on MBS, and on April 18 on TBS.
"Ichigeki Kakusatsu SS Nikki" writes the online blog, based on real-life experiences. The blog chronicles a father who is over 60, and his son as they play the Final Fantasy XIV game together. The series will follow both men as the game brings them closer together while each of them are also holding onto a secret.
